To be clear I work at a music school. MUSIC school. I wear black eyeliner often at work but that’s about it. Boss pulled me in his office today and told me to “tone down the makeup” because it’s not professional and kinda scary, yet all the corporate music schools in the area allow teachers to dress however they want and wear whatever makeup they want. My makeup isn’t even extreme at all. There’s also been a lot of recent emails about dress code and enforcing no leggings, no clothes with ANY writing, no ripped jeans and other dumb stuff. My boss said he allows me to show my tattoos and wear what I want but I have to take off the makeup. Hell no. So tired of workspaces that claim to welcome “individuality and creativity” will pull you aside if you’re wearing ripped jeans or any black makeup. Gtfo
