…say, $10k USD a month. And you suddenly realize that isn’t actually very ‘substantial’ considering the area you live in is ridiculously expensive, even by typical ‘Merican standards. Additionally, you’ve suddenly found yourself to be at a point in life where you can basically fuck off for a year or two before beginning the second half of life. Nothing substantial is holding you back (no familial commitments, no kids, no wife, professional situation will allow for you to return whenever you are ready…)
Where would you escape to if you were looking for somewhere tropical, affordable (for stated budget), safe, fairly modern and not already infested with a bunch of swingin’ ex-pat dicks?
Chances are such a place doesn’t exist, or doesn’t check off every box on the ‘wish list’…but if you could escape for an extended period of time and wanted those things listed above, where would you go?
Had a conversation with a few friends this evening and it sounded like Costa Rica and ‘SE Asia’ were the two places most recommended. Ideally, suggestions would be more targeted locations like specific cities and even neighborhoods within those cities.
Given that information, where would you recommend? And why?
