Just adding this here, because I think I’ll find some people have a similar story.
I used to work at a “production facility” which packaged and shipped COVID test kits. I won’t name the company due to sub rules, but just know it’s one of the big ones.
I was supposed to start my shift at 3pm today. 3pm-11:30pm. I got a call from the shift manager saying that they were shutting down the production facility and laying everyone off at 1:45pm. This was today(Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022). Luckily for me I was able to find another job, but that isn’t that goddamn point.
They let us go AN HOUR before our shift was supposed to start. I was already driving to work when I got the call. Per the rules of my “employment contract”, I was supposed to give them a full week’s notice before I quit. They gave us one hour before they laid us all off. 3 shifts, probably 50-75 people each. A lot of them either don’t speak English or speak very little English. These people who have taken our jobs have effectively financially fucked some 200 people with 1 hour’s warning.
EDIT: Spelling and Grammar, but also Someone in the comments told me naming the company which laid me off isn’t against the rules, so I’m going to name them. It’s “Artemis Plastics”, and we were making On/Go Covid Antigen tests.
