I had applied to a job a few weeks ago and a recruiter just reached out to me. This is how the conversation went:
Them: Hi, my name is ____ and I am contacting you on behalf of Blue Ox Family Games to schedule a zoom screening interview.
Me: Hello, I have reviewed the job posting in question. Could you please provide the salary range for this position?
Them: The hiring manager indicated that they are willing to pay a very competitive rate for this position. I don't have a salary range. If you want to tell me your salary requirement I can run that by her.
Me: I'm sorry, I need to hear the salary range before I entertain any interviews.
Them: OK I will see if I can the salary range for you. Stay tuned.
Them again: Hi, I received a response from the owner of the company and they have decided to move forward with other candidates. Good luck to you in the future.
Me: Just to clarify: you rejected me based on my request for salary information?
Blue Ox Family Games is such a nice and family friendly company, but they will reject you for asking about their salary range, hmmm, clearly not trying to hide how much they underpaying their staff. People need to be more willing to push to make salary information more visible and transparent, or companies like this will push to take advantage of you.
