Two people at a company I applied to called my current boss as a “professional courtesy,” to give him a heads up that I’m thinking about leaving

I currently work in a body shop but I used to work in insurance claims. I’ve had some issues here that made me want to go back to claims, and I was offered positions at Insurance Co 1 as well as Insurance Co 2. To make this complicated, I accepted Ins Co 2’s offer since Ins Co 1 did not provide me with any official offer paperwork yet, but I would prefer their role because they are 100% WFH. So I sit down with my boss and tell him I’m giving my notice (both positions start the same day) and he said he already knew, since two people from Insurance Co 2 called him as a “professional courtesy” to let him know one of his employees was applying to their company. Luckily, my boss is a decent guy and said he was happy for me and wants the best for me, and he said he relayed the same to his two professional connections.

Now I really don’t want the position with Ins Co 2. This feels really underhanded and not in my interest in the least. Until Ins Co 1 sends me the actual offer letter, I’m stuck in this arrangement
