Just a rant. I work for a large online retailer everyone in the world has heard of and they are notorious for abusing their staff (any guesses?)
I'm part of management and have heavy involvement at my location, meaning I have a very good idea of the HR processes and the general sentiment of the whole company. Honestly it's like a cult and everyone works in a state of constant fear, but we all kind of get on with it because we like our team, we like our roles, we get paid alright but we just all fucking hate the company itself. It's often likened to a corporate North Korea. The practices are intolerable, they treat people like absolute shit but circulate internal propaganda like it's going out of fashion.
So anyway, I learned I'm imminently going to be hauled into an HR meeting because I've had 3 sicknesses in the last 6 months. The cause of these sick days is likely down to extreme stress. May be worth adding I haven't had 3 sick days in the 15 years of my working life prior to this.
I have never trusted the HR Department and I would never contact or consult them for anything because they're geared towards the business and not the people. They're untrustworthy and everyone fucking hates them. I have watched them fuck over multiple people for the most pathetic things.
It's highly likely I'm going to get given a formal warning and be placed on some kind of concern list meaning I can't change positions internally for at least 6 months while they monitor me. They will not take into consideration the fact I work to a standard 2 levels above my pay grade and am probably the most productive member of the team in my building. A lot of people rely on me as I am the only person in the building that can do certain tasks. I don't usually blow my own trumpet but deep down I know I'm very capable and clever and worth a hell of a lot more.
I have decided I've had enough and need to find another job. Whether I get a formal warning or not, this is it. I'm done. This company really is as bad as the press say it is, if not worse.
So if anyone is looking for staff that can tolerate working in the most abusive environment you can imagine, hit me up. Any job is going to be easy after this.
