Turned down an interview

So I applied for an HR job that would've paid $17 an hour (I currently make 8.75) but when they offered me an interview they informed me I'd have to travel 2 hours away for it. Me, being poor, can't afford the gas that would be needed for that – plus my car windows don't roll down, and the AC barely works. (Ever heard the phrase it's expensive to be poor? Yep.) Pretty bummed. Is that normal, to have to travel so far just for an interview? I'd understand for training or something but for an interview where I may or may not even get the job just seems stupid.
