Old boss from sheepish meatball making box store never give a rating higher than 3/5 on year end review unless you went above and beyond doing your job.

This happened 15 years ago and my boss was an over achiever who did extra events for the company. So they had a screwed vision of what a good review looked like. At this big box store your boss did a review of you. And the employee in return would do a review of themselves before hand. Then we would have a sit down meeting and compare the reviews. The first time I did it I thought I was doing a good job and gave myself 4s, some 5's and some 3's as well. When she saw this she told me it was completely wrong and that the only way you could get a 4 or a 5 was if you went above and beyond your own job and do other things within the company. So she stopped the review and told me to redo it. With an appropriate score.…

So I did, then gave myself 3's and a few 4's thinking that since I help out in other departments, that would be.considered going above and beyond. But nope. Apparently that's still part of my job (even though It's not in my job description)

In the end I ended up only getting 2's and 3's and because of it, ended up getting an abysmal raise.

This still makes me mad 15 years later.
