So I took a part time gig at a drive through coffee shop to earn a little extra money and to learn a new skill. I have been working there for a few weeks at this point. I arrived at work in the morning when it's still dark outside and am told by the manager that I'm going to be a “runner” today. The runner goes out with a tablet and takes order from cars that are in line at the drive thru. They do not have a speaker system. Did I mention it's about 6° outside and I don't have a jacket, hat or gloves! I tell the manager this and she dismissed it saying ” you won't be outside long”. I proceeded to go and take orders outside in little more than a T-shirt for 30min. My hands were numb and ears hurt and I could not stop shaking. Afterwords I came in and said ” this is dangerous and I'm not doing it anymore!”. The manager was not happy and told me to wear another employees jacket and go back outside. I'm a 38 year old man 6' and 250+ lbs and work almost exclusively with with 20 year old women who are not even close to my size. She relented and had me to other tasks the rest of my shift. I have another full-time job and only took this gig as a part time gig for extra cash. Being a professional I have no problem standing up for myself and wish I would have done so earlier in this situation. I know for a fact I work with “kids” at this coffee shop that would have never said anything and just endured so they wouldn't get fired or yelled at. Management acting this way is reckless and dangerous.
