Can my job fire me for doing something not listed in my job description?

I was hired in the production department of my job and they have begun to send swaths of us down to the assembly apartment everyday to do work we were not trained in on machines we do not know. We all signed offer letters that say we can be fired at any time for any reason. We hate assembly, wete never asked if we were willing to go, and it is not listed in our job description. Cross department work is in the description of the position above ours, but none of us hold that title. The job is in NY. Does anybody know if I got fired would I have any legal recourse?
