A coworker had something traumatic happen to her and called my manager to let her know she was going to apply for a leave of absence and my manager told her to get her shifts covered

Without going into too many personal details, a coworker of mine had something traumatic happen in her family and was struggling to get through her shift today. She asked me about a leave of absence as I took one when I was suicidal. I told her to call my manager to tell her that she (my coworker) won’t be in for her scheduled shifts and will be applying for a leave of absence (as this is policy). The manager/shift on duty is supposed to find coverage. Instead my manager told her to cover her own shifts before anything. So I sent her home and covered her shifts for her. When I told my manager – she told me that SHE got them covered (despite telling my coworker she would get them covered). I think she was just trying to cover her ass as there is a large unionization movement going…
