I recently started working at a corporate spot where the culture is “no one leaves until 5.” It’s salary so not really sure why the timing of the appropriate hours even matters.
I asked my boss one day if I could leave 5-10 minutes early because I needed to travel out of town for my own business (event photographer) They knew of this job when they hired me and knew this would be an occurrence.
Response: you don’t need to ask. I trust you.
She handled me like an adult because I’m 30
Fast forward two weeks and the same thing needs to happen. But this time my boss is gone and it’s just the chick who approves time for everyone and is only 22.
I didn’t ask, just started leaving because I came in half an hour early for this exact reason.
Response: where are you going? It’s not even close to 5 (again 5-10 minutes before 5).
I should also say there’s weird processes like getting remote work approved through paperwork and it goes toward your file even though it’s allowed. There’s a few red flags for me but overall they’ve been good to me so far.
How do I handle this situation knowing I work over 40 hours on any given week and got it cleared with my actual boss who is one of the owners, without creating resentment towards time approval girl who’s on a high horse?
