A job is only about money.

I see that this reddit is somehow bipolar. There is one philosophy here that people should work only when they want and what they want, and then complaining when a company says that is not only about the money, but about accomplishments, family and other BS. And you blame boomers a lot about this work philosophy. So let's make the things clear: a job is only about the money. You get pay because you need to do things that otherwise you will not do. No one can say that is their dream to clean shit from a septic tank, but someone needs to do it hence the pay. Or for s matter of fact serving people food and drinks. Even if you absolutely love the domain of your job you still need to do a lot of things that you don't like. And this is the difference between a job…

And this is the difference between a job and a hobby: you need to do even the parts that you don't like, but you get payed for this.

For example I love what I do for work since I was a kid, but still hate to do more than 60% of my activities. The only reason to do my work is money.

And to get back to boomers, they didn't invented this concept of pleasurable job. This is a recent “invention”. For boomers and earlier generations it was simple: you go from 9 to 5 to s jon that you hate, you get payed, and spend the rest of the time with your family. Everybody was aware of this and they were ok with the situation.

But then some smart-ass thought of inventing this concept of work = fun and company loyalty. This is pretty much like the concept of nationalism. Before nationalism armies were formed mostly by mercenaries that were payed very well to fight and die. After nationalism, was: “go and fight for your country and nation to protect our values and other BS” and it was much cheaper for the ruling class. Mercenaries were very expensive, and if you didn't payed them, then they would have killed you.

So don't forget, employees are nothing more than mercenaries, they fight as long as they are payed. But as long as they are part of an army, then yes they are loyal to that army, otherwise they will find themselves without their head. If they are not properly compensated or they got a better offer, then yes, they can join another army.

Simple enough?
