A job kept me in the interview process for over a year and then got mad at me when I said they took too long making a decision and I had already found another job.

So, I applied to this job originally almost two years ago. It looked to be a good job. The pay was nice and it would be WFH, which I was looking forward to doing, since lockdowns were still in full effect at this time. I do two interviews and then schedule to interview with someone a bit higher up then the initial interviewers. The day of the interview comes and I’m logged into discord (where the interview was taking place) and messaging the guy stating that I’m there and ready. The start time of the interview comes and goes, and after about 20 minutes of waiting, messaging, and receiving no response back, I message “looks like you’re busy, let’s reschedule” and I move on with my day. The start time of the interview comes and goes, and after about 20 minutes of waiting, messaging, and receiving no response back, I message “looks like you’re busy, let’s reschedule” and I move on with my day.

A couple weeks later I get a message of apology, apparently the manager I was to meet with that day came down with Covid and was feeling so shitty he completely forgot about the interview. A fairly understandable reason, so I accept an offer to reschedule for whenever he’s fully recovered.

Three weeks go by and he messages me again saying they’ve hired someone in the position and it’s no longer available.

Okay, whatever. Moving on.

Cut to a year later and they message me saying they’ve changed owners and they found my resume in their files and thought I’d be good fit for the job. They’re offering even better pay this time around, and the position is still WFH. Everything sounds great, so I say, yeah I’ll interview with the new management.

We schedule an interview and I hop on discord the day of and… once again radio silence.

I wait about 30 minutes and then log off.

I get a message shortly about how they were busy “putting out fires in the office because our servers were down” or something. Whatever. I don’t reschedule with them this time and move on.

Today I get a phone call from them. I answer and they sound desperate and are asking if I’d still be interested in working for them. I laugh and say “no, you guys took way too long.”

I could hear his hope being shattered over the phone. After a long pause he says “ok” and it sounds so broken and sad, I almost felt bad about it.

Almost.

“Have a good one.” I say without missing a beat, and hang up before he can say anything else.

Impossible to find good bosses these days.
