A part of my job is getting automated. You’d think that reducing the workload would lead to a favourable work-life balance outcome. Well, no, we are going to work the same load but be even *more* productive! Four day week? Never heard of her!

So part of my tasks are getting automated and it was hailed like the next best thing since sliced bread. It sounded good until we were told it will allow us to focus on other tasks but the boost in productivity would be so beneficial to the company. There has always been this utopian idea that once everything is automated humanity will have more free time to enjoy whatever small time we have on this planet. It’s wishful thinking. Instead we need to work the same amount or even more despite old tasks taken off of our shoulders so that these companies can be more productive and the high-ups can justify even more bonuses and get more outrageously wealthy whereas our pay doesn’t even keep up with inflation. Constant growth is a myth and a blight on all of us. We sacrifice our free time and majority of our lives…
