My company, which made over a billion dollars last year, has just let us know what our Merit Raises will be. I got a 1% raise… a whopping 20 cents. That's about 7 dollars extra a week. Its not just me, others got anywhere from 1-3%.
We were told “Merit Raises wouldn't be much because we just got a 2 dollar pay increase.” I work in a factory and don't even break 20 dollars an hour. That increase put the starting pay at 18 dollars an hour. That's beside the point, why does my “Merit” get affected by the earlier increase? It didn't change the quality of work I put out, so what's the deal?
Just wanted to vent… I'd rather they just not have given me a raise at all. Thanks for the extra 1.5 gallons of gas a week I guess.
