Hello!
Ive recently been applying for new jobs (started last week on Wednesday) and already have a potential offer – only condition is that I give my current job a 3 week notice because they need someone to start soon.
My current job: entry/mid-level role, less than 50k a year, 3x the workload promised during interviews, little to no support, and less than ideal training. They have been “working” on hiring help for our team for over a year with no results. Wfh hybrid but choose to mostly work in office.
Potential Job: contract position with a strong potential to become permanent, manager position, $60 an hour starting out with guaranteed 1 month of one on one hands on training. All preplanned vacations will be guaranteed in my contract. They are desperate not because of lack of staff, but because current staff is going on leave in a few months so they have a limited time to fill the role to guarantee proper training. Role is completely in office, no wfh, but I dont mind that especially with the location of the office (20 min commute)
With those details it seems like a no brainer, but I am terrified of resigning (never had to before) and cant get past the guilt I feel of leaving my team in an even worse place. Its such a massive change and I have like 10 tons of imposter syndrome hitting me even though Im confident I could excel in the role.
At the same time my current office has been dangling a potential raise “in the works” for about four months now and a lot of the sympathy I have for them is drying out.
Advice on resigning, overcoming the guilt, and potential red flags to look for in new opportunities?
(Ps. Contract position is not a no no for me, i think I like having a potential out in 6mos with no recourse if the position ends up not being for me)
