Tryna make this as short as possible. So early march I started a job at Dairy Queen. Last Week I volunteered to stay an extra hour to help out, last Saturday I covered someone’s shift and worked a double from 11-9pm. Today someone called out and I offered to cover a second shift and work a double from 12-10. Manager leaves at 4 and the 17 yr old shift leader takes over. From 4-6 I’m by myself in the ice cream area. He helps me a little bit but for the most part he’s either leaning against a wall or helping drive thru. I’m behind on shit. Finally around 6 a trainee shows up and helps me out to the best he can. I’m still newish he’s been there for a week or two and it’s not going great. The store owner shows up, who everyone says is an asshole and I agree but I was actually happy he showed up because he got shit together. Work was flowing smoother. The shift leader starts helping us out which is great. After he leaves the shift leader is like you gotta be more careful and pay attention to what’s been made because a lot of doubles have been made. Like I get it, but it’s difficult I’m not use to this and the other worker is still new. He then tells everyone how the owner blames him for everything going wrong. Cool. Then closing happens an hour later and I’m trying to stock stuff in chill area because while I don’t work tomorrow morning I want to do it for my co workers as I know what it’s like coming into work in the morning and nothing is restocked! It sucks. Then the cashier is like “who’s doing dishes” everyone else is mopping a certain part of the store and she’s like “you can do dishes you’re not doing anything” So I sarcastically say back I’m restocking chill obviously(which I was) and I’m not doing dishes manager said I worked a double so I don’t have too. Then as I’m going to the back to grab stuff I notice she’s in the office and I know she’s complaining about me. The shift leader emerges and goes “DO WHAT SHE SAYS WHEN IM IN THE OFFICE COUNTING MONEY IM GOING TO MESSAGE THE MANAGER AND ASK HIM” I’m just like ight go for it. Then a little while later he’s like go to the dishes I asked him he said he never said that. So I do some dishes I’m doing a half ass job I have cold water and no soap.
I never stayed a night shift, except on Easter and never did dishes there. There’s grease everywhere I have a dirty steel wool. There’s also a shit load of things to clean. Pile in the sink, pile on the side, pile on the floor. At this point I worked 9.5 hours I’m hungry, tired. The dishes which are grill parts and literally shit I’ve never seen before keep coming. One worker says damn you’re working a double and doing dishes I think he meant the other dude you share a name with. I’m like nope. He says it again and I’m laughing like nah. Then everyone except the girl and the shift leader leave. They’re standing next to me he’s just not really doing much except talking to her then he’s like “you know why I’m having you wash every single dish and do dishes because you lied and said the manager said you didn’t have to do it”. I fire back and I’m like I was being sarcastic because she was telling me I wasn’t doing anything when I was restocking. He goes silent. I’m half Assing the dishes hoping he’d help as some of this shit is stuck on there and itd be quicker to have some help. Like at my last summer job someone would rinse and someone would scrub to speed things up. But nope. Instead he complains I miss stuff. Finally I get down to one giant grill piece and half ass it. It’s 1130 I’ve worked 11 hours and am way too tired of having a teenager disrespect me constantly throughout the day and sometimes previous days. He said stop being lazy. I laugh, clock out, take off.
