Hey all, looking for some advice. I'm in my first full time job, i had a job as a “consultant” (that bs way of having someone work for you without being part of your company) since i graduated, about 2.5 years ago, up until Oct 2021. My current job is awesome, I'm the only computer science person they have, so whatever accomodation i ask for, whether is a full RGB mechanical keyboard or a Herman Miller chair, I get it. They also have no issues with me working from home while everyone else is in-person, I'm not working from home bc of COVID concerns, i just dont want to commute every day, and they're OK with that.
With all that said, I've been working 60-70hr/weeks pretty much since the beginning. During the interview process I was told that my main task would be to switch all of their data processes to a unified and automated server, and all the work involved would be my responsibility, but we would have an 18-month time frame to complete it. It's a medium-size non-profit company (about 700 employees total) so the time frame was reasonsble for the amount of work it was, considering it was going to be a one-man effort. Two weeks after I started, that time frame shrunk to 12 months, and a month after that it shrunk to 6 months, so yeah, taking all the data processes (old and new, since now that things are gonna be automated people got creative and want to do more things than they were doing) from 7 different departments is about to be completed at the low cost of losing my sanity and management saying “we need this by end of March”.
My question to y'all is, my performance review is happening shortly after i finish the project, my boss is obviously super happy thay they look great in front of the execs bc they're accomplishing this gigantic task (to which they contributed exactly 0 lines of code), I would like to ask for a raise specially since I'm the only one that knows how to keep the server running with all its processes, or at least a bonus for crunching so much. I feel hesitant about it since they have been very accomodating and I knew since before coming in that this was my first big task and I'm a new hire, so I'm feeling like a big a**hole for even thinking on pulling a “If I walk, you're doomed” bc of those things and bc they're a non-profit and they legit do a ton of good in our comminity.
Thoughts?
