…Is what I heard the regional manager say to my store manager, when he complained about his staff getting heavier workloads by the weeks…. I was having breaktime while they where conversing about this.
For context I work at the bakery department of a big discount grocery store, 11 hours a day. This I do singlehandedly because having 2+ workers like every other grocery store costs too much. The reason why 1 person is able to handle the department is because many things are automated and prepared beforehand. But it seems this fact gets forgotten by higher-ups, for my workload gets aggravated every week for a while now, without it being low time costing.
I can give you examples but let's just say the work is becoming too much to handle. When this got brought up to the boss of my boss, she just enthusiasticly said it would be no problem if we workers got a better “winners-mentality”! Proudly she expects minimum wage workers to be like olympic atlethes trying to win gold medals. Like the motivated of us don't already work hard enough.
My point isn't even to complain about work, I never complain and always work harder. But my point is that higher-ups use dirty wordplays to convince us why we aren't doing enough. Stop the trickery and either show empathy, or give us a stone cold explanation of why you think we can handle the workload. Don't beat around the bush with fake answers or try to motivate us with utter nonsense like “winners mentality”.
Fellow workers do you have other examples like this?
