So many posts on here say things like report the employer. Well I am here to say I first hand that this just doesn't work if the employer just flat out doesn't give a shit. I worked for a company the offered a 401k plan with company matching. Well come to find out the boss was keeping our 401k money and not sending it in and not giving out company match. I bought this to the bosses attention and I was blown off several times as this being an honest mistake however it was never corrected. And it effected the whole company (about 10 people) I then quit the job and reported the company. It started with the state labor department and ended up working its way all the way up to the FBI. The FBI worked on the case for almost a year before telling me there was nothing they could do and I was out my money, was almost $15k at this point plus any lost earnings. Basically it came down to, the company appeared to have no money because the boss used the company account like his personal account. And the FBI couldn't force him to pay when he had no money to pay. He didn't even get a slap on the wrist. They just straight up closed their investigation because it was getting nowhere due to the bosses unwillingness to work with the FBI. I tried to call a couple lawyers but after telling them my story and how the FBI was involved no one wanted to help me. So I lost all that money and nothing bad happened to my previous boss..
