First of all this subreddit is therapy. I've been working hard and advancing my whole life yet still barely stay afloat. I'm 100% loving the energy here.
So to begin my partner (we gay) has worked for a funeral home for the last 18 years. He's worked office positions, funerals, administration jobs, and actually operates the crematory currently.
Unfortunately last month he had a minor heart attack and had surgery to insert a stent. All throughout the week he was there his boss called, checked in, seemed to care. I was shocked because my bosses would never for the most part do that.
Anyway, he returned home and after seeing a cardiologist was placed on light duty until he completes cardiac rehab. So he calls up his boss and is told by the end of the week they will figure something out.
So at the end of the week he's informed there's nothing he can do at an entire funeral home and crematory. On top of that, he's not getting paid anything until TBD.
I should probably add that my partner has been there so long he's still (and only one) paid a salary. The owner (boss) of the funeral home has recently purchased 2 other major funeral homes in neighboring counties. This guy literally has his elderly mother working there!
However, my partner, who has worked almost every position over 2 decades can't find light duty office work (TEMPORARILY?!?!?)
I do believe it's cause of the salary and the owners greed. I do however feel this group helps people in bad situations with some advice.
Even if not illegal, is there any recourse? He's currently looking for employment elsewhere, which can't blame him.
We are in Maryland in case that matters. Thanks guys!!!!
