amazon is apparently to blame…

So I work for a outpatient mental health clinic that has like 9 locations around our state and we just got a new manager at our call center who was explaining to me that there is no possible way that we can afford to pay everyone a livable “competitive” wage because Amazon recently came to our state and set up a warehouse where they are paying people $17-22 an hour even though they have a huge turn over rate. Because apparently, “everyone wants to go work at Amazon for that rate and we can't afford to pay everyone that much”. Most of our medical assistants barely make the low end of that. But yet, the company that owns the clinics just acquired a chain of mental health clinics in a South American country for a large sum of money… and is planning and opening more clinics. Hmmm…
