Total War is a term that means, all members of society have to contribute to a war effort. In the name of winning a war in other lands, the citizenry of the home front will accept all sorts of changes to their life which they normally wouldn't. Including longer work weeks, fuel rationing, increased regulation on media, higher taxes and big brother surveillance measures.
