America the Ugly

Hey antiwork, long time lurker, first time poster. I just spent my last 3.57 to buy a couple of packs of ramen noodles to last my family and I the next four days until I get paid again, most of which is going to go to our “savings” account, which is really just a second account that we have to pay our mortgage out of so that it doesn’t overdraft our checking account and make us homeless. I’ve always been the kind of person who’s thought that if I work really hard at my job (“associate”), I’ll be recognized as a hard working employee and that will translate into a nice raise, but after a year of working for a certain retail chain that sells everything at a discount, a store you might go to with your FRIENDS, I got a “nice” raise of 11 cents an hour, so now…

I’ve always been the kind of person who’s thought that if I work really hard at my job (“associate”), I’ll be recognized as a hard working employee and that will translate into a nice raise, but after a year of working for a certain retail chain that sells everything at a discount, a store you might go to with your FRIENDS, I got a “nice” raise of 11 cents an hour, so now I officially make 11 cents more than minimum wage in my state.

I wish I could quit this bullshit job. I know I literally could, but I know I’m just going to end up working somewhere similar or worse. At least my coworkers are okay people.
