Americans: Have you ever worked at the US branch of a company based in another country known for having really good workers’ rights? How did the two branches compare to one another?

I actually learned how much better workers have it in other countries while I was working at the new US branch of a Canadian company. There was a Canadian employee I had to deal with via email who was incompetent and absolutely sucked at her job. Half my job was fixing her mistakes, yet she had been employed there for almost 5 years. I asked my boss why she wasn't fired and he explained that in Canada and most of Europe you can't fire someone unless they REALLY mess up. And even then the employee can still sue. The kicker was the US branch was in a State with the worst job security due to at-will employment laws favoring employers. Any little thing can get you fired, no questions asked. I noticed heads were rolling in the US office while Canada was screwing up and no one could do anything.…

I noticed heads were rolling in the US office while Canada was screwing up and no one could do anything. I can only imagine the owner of the company, who split their time between branches, was making up for lost time in the US.
