An internship that you pay to do!

Last year I was enrolled as a graduate student in social work. It was a relatively expensive program but I was really excited to become a social worker. It was an online version of the same program they had on campus so it seemed like a perfect option during covid times as a lot of on campus programs had went mostly remote. The first semester was fine but I was already getting a feeling that the online version was not a great value. Just kinda seemed second rate and not worth what I was paying. Starting with the second semester we had an internship that would run for the remainder of the six semester program. The internship required about 8-10 hours a week of in person work. This was unpaid. BUT, there was also course work attached to the internship. So every semester I had to pay for classes attached…

This was unpaid. BUT, there was also course work attached to the internship. So every semester I had to pay for classes attached to my internship! I calculated the internship classes over the span of the program and I would pay $20,000 to not get paid. And because of that there is one less social worker in the world.
