So I had my second interview and walk through for a production supervisor position at an industrial food production plant this morning. Let’s just say I won’t be taking the position. The operations manager I sat down with did not have a copy of my resume and within 10 minutes of the interview he was called away, because an employee was having a nervous breakdown 2 doors away. They left me sitting in an office by myself for 20 minutes while they handled it.
Once they figured out I had been sitting in the office for 20 minutes alone, someone came and got me for the plant tour. I was never informed that the entire plant besides the offices was kept at a balmy 38 degrees. I only had a summer suit on and couldn’t feel my hands after the first hour. The tour lasted 2 hours. There was ice on a lot of the floors and I almost fell a number of times.
After that, I was taken to HR to fill out some forms. The forms included a 4th grade math test. It was converting ounces to pounds and word problems. I was done in about 5 minutes, and when the head of HR came back to give me a calculator, he was surprised I was already done. After that he said, he said he would be in touch. Once I got to my car I blocked their number.
There is not a work shortage going on. This is just the natural evolutionary process of bad companies going extinct. I think I dodged a bullet on that one.
