Today's episode of The Daily focuses on the trend of increased surveillance in the workplace due to increased remote work and how it is even finding it's way into the office as well. As someone who works remotely, and have worked remotely for the past 14 years, I found it creepy, distopian and disgusting how companies are spending their money on programs to track their employees and trusting an IT department to understand what “being successful” in their job means. When I work from home, I will admit that if I have a lull, I will unload my dishwasher or put in a load of laundry, but I've received nothing but glowing reviews from my managers and customers. I don't know for sure whether or not my company tracks my productivity in any way, but if I found out they did, it would cause me to consider moving onto something else. At what point will the employee in the workplace cease to tolerate this level of blatant disrespect as a human being? What can be done to fight back against this?
