Apparently my promotion was not actually a promotion

The head of my department asked me if I wanted to be a supervisor, which involved overseeing the department in the weekend when she was away or weekdays when she isn't there. She sold it was less physical work, more pay but more responsibility. I had only been there for 2 months at that point (back in December 2021). I said yes and started training for it in January 2022. No payrise. Started the new role officially in Feburary, still no payrise. Covid hit my country pretty bad around that time so we lost staff and supervising became doing my regular job on top of the supervising role. I kept asking my dept head about the payrise as I was doing significantly more work, she said she would talk to the company manager, she did not, I asked her at least 5 times and she kept saying the same thing.…

The head of my department asked me if I wanted to be a supervisor, which involved overseeing the department in the weekend when she was away or weekdays when she isn't there. No payrise. Started the new role officially in Feburary, still no payrise.

Covid hit my country pretty bad around that time so we lost staff and supervising became doing my regular job on top of the supervising role. I kept asking my dept head about the payrise as I was doing significantly more work, she said she would talk to the company manager, she did not, I asked her at least 5 times and she kept saying the same thing. Eventually she told me it was actually my responsibility to go and talk to the manager about it. Which I did not feel it was as the pay rise should have automatically happened when I started training.

I became more and more bitter about it, at the end of March I demanded a meeting with the manager (after my HoD kept saying she would set 1 up) and explained the situation, she said my dept head had mentioned nothing about it to her, this was on a thursday, she said she would send the payrise application to head office that day and I would know by Friday.

Friday comes and goes and I hear nothing. Decided I would wait until payday on Tuesday and if there was no payrise I would just walk. Tuesdays rolls around and surprise surprise, no payrise.

At this point I had 100% had enough and told another supervisor I was done and the reason why, I was doing so much extra work with way more responsibility but no extra pay. I had already found another job, there is a major employee shortage where I live so it's easy to find another job. Within 10 minutes of talking to the other supervisor head office had miraculously gotten back to the manager and my payrise was approved. At this point it was April. So it took 3 months and me threatening to quit.

The manager called me into her office when it was approved and said my head of dept should never have promised me a payrise because it wasn't actually a promotion, It literally was though, all of the other supervisors were on a higher pay rate. The whole situation was just ridiculous.
