I'm not sure if this is allowed here but I thought I'd put it to get some thoughts
I hate my current job, I'm sick of it, been here 8 years and have very little show from it. I've applied for a new job but I dunno something seems off.
The job itself seems very ambiguous, they even said on the job listing after this long description “if that meant nothing to you, don't worry! Just see below if you fit what we're looking for”
Then it was the usual, be a team player, work in a fast paced environment, and some more technical things. The pay also has a very wide bracket it's £27,000 to 40,000 a year which I found odd but it's more than what I get I now
So I sent my CV, 20 minutes later I get an email saying they loved my CV, a quick read I guess? They want me to submit a 1 minute video about what makes me tick and they say “we know it's a bit of effort but only 10% of applicants submit this part!”
I send my video, three days later I get an email “Hi, thank you for your video, you came across very professional, personable and enthusiastic ” they then say I need to complete a case study. Again they say “we know its a lot of effort but it may encourage you to know only 5% of people who apply reach this stage!”
I go to the link and this case study thing is ridiculous. They give me scenario and ask me to write a business plan based on the scenario, took me 2 hours, what I didn't like about the scenario though was the bottom it said “imagine you're a new starter and you really want to wow your bosses!” I dunno maybe I'm just cynical
I finish the business plan thinking that's it but nope the next page is a bunch of maths questions and then they end it with “create a PowerPoint presentation for the clients in the scenario that [company name] would be proud to show off!”
This whole thing feels like a piss take, the emails just come across very copy and paste and this case study stuff is like an entire day's work.
The worst part is, this is only for a chance at an interview which apparently there are a number of them?!
So is this normal for I guess a higher paid job or are they taking the piss?
