Appreciation Dinner? In my only free time? No thank you.

A recent company-wide email was sent out stating that we’d have an “appreciation dinner” as a small gesture to show thanks for all our recent hard work. For some context, we’ve recently had 5 employees move on to greener pastures, of an already small-ish group. There are roughly ~25 of us working in this firm and have had to pick up extra work in some areas. On top of already being slammed with work while they were still working here. We’ll too bad, I’m not gonna go. It’s my free time after work, which I value so much so more than a mediocre dinner with people I barely enjoy spending time with.

They’ve sent out multiple dates to pick from so that we can ALL work something out. But I am just so tempted to say “hell nah, I’d rather just have a bonus”
