Are managers useless everywhere or just in Aus?

Was thinking about something I saw in another post and it sparked the question, are managers always just annoying, useless and otherwise bullies for more reason? I’ve found that most managers get into their positions due to 3 usual main reasons; they have friends who get them (and keep them there) into the post, no one else will do it, or they “have the experience”. The ones who get in via friends etc tend to rely on their friends/superiors to get them outta strife and conflict by siding with where possible. Even if they’re wrong. This manager usually is really ‘clicky’ with other managers and long term employees creating cancerous/toxic environment that only a certain type survive in. It’s disgusting. The no one else kinda manager is just the worst kind of manager. They usually believe they’re best manager and no one else knows better because “I’ve worked here for 5 years” or some crap. But really, they were the last resort and there’s so many better candidates, but the employer was too lazy/cheap to find a person with more experience and better people skills. Isn’t that ironic that managers are meant to have good/the best people skills, but normally they’re worse than the lowest level employee due to their egos and sense of entitlement and stress levels?

Managers that get in thru experience are either hit or miss, usually miss. On the one hand experience is good, but I feel people skills are much more important and that’s what most (like 99%) of managers don’t have.

So I’ve found you just can’t win with managers. Very rarely I’ve found a good manager that isn’t a bully, elitist, clicky, useless and everything in between.

Sorry for the rant, just some thoughts while I’m on holiday in fiji 🇫🇯

What do you think of managers? Do you have any stories of crappy managers?
