I am very passionate about people knowing their rights. I’m surprised I haven’t gotten in trouble at work yet because I will freely tell coworkers and managers if something is illegal and what it’s illegal under. I’ve told them, “Workers have few rights in this country and I feel they need to be informed of the ones they do have and how to exercise them.” so many of my coworkers just accepted managers saying we couldn’t talk about pay without getting written up/fired, so many didn’t know about FMLA or their rights under the ADA, etc. They don’t realize the importance of putting all these things in e-mail so you have proof the employer was informed if they, say, fire you for needing to go to doctor’s appointments. There are a few things in place we can do to protect ourselves on some fronts. I want people to know them and how to put them into motion.
Recently, I was wondering if there is a job for that specifically. I immediately thought HR but they’re more designed to the protect the company. I can’t imagine I’d be employed long if an employee came to me for something and I started telling them, “Oh no! You get a lawyer! They can’t do that!” 🤣
So are there any jobs out there that would fit? I’d enjoy this so much I’d even be willing to go back to school. I’m 34 and thought I was past that bullshit. Lol.
