articles/topics/ideas surrounding the so called “American Dream”

Hey all, I'm a long time lurker but this is my first post here. I'm writing a paper on the american dream 100 years ago vs. today for my Englisch class, and am having trouble finding reputable articles and sources that align with a leftist perspective. I'm not American, or from America, which makes it a bit more challenging to grasp the idea (although I think I've got that now), but also means that I can pretty much say as many negative things as I want about America without being ridiculed in any way (which is nice). I'm looking for reputable, citable sources – as well as ideas or topics I might be able to cover. I firmly believe that the American dream is dead – it seems no amount of hard work really pays off for Americans. So finding material that confirms (or at least doesn't contradict) that idea.…
