My wife works for a specific burger corporation you might have heard of. The franchise (like a 100 others) are owned by another corporation you may not have heard of.
The restaurant houses five HVAC units (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning)
All five have been broken for years. When the last two gave out, they were told o tough it out because the building was scheduled for a rebuild. Then the company and city argued and then they were told o hang on because it would receive renovations.
The workers were told they have no recourse. The temp in the kitchen frequently reached 103, but it doesn't qualify as an OSHA violation until it reaches 110.
Eighteen months later, the company caved and ordered two HVAC units.
Eight months later, the units still hadn't been delivered. The company says they have them in a warehouse but refuse to ship until they have a full shipment.
My wife bought the staff icees out of her own pocket to keep the staff alive. Finally the store managet and district manager got on the roof and tried to fix the problem themselves. The go two units working somewhat functional. They can cool, but can't be turned up or down and don't have heating of ventilation capabilities.
Last week the units finally arrived. Corporate decided that since my wife's store had “working” units, they gave the units to another stote despite the protests of the store and district managers.
One week later, both HVAC's broke again. Nearly 3 years later, the employees are roasting alive
