The majority of Americans are $400 away from living in the streets. What is this administration doing about it?

It seems we are in a crisis and the government is sitting on its hands.

I’m done with this, going to go become a monk and live a quiet life.

TLDR: Internships are bullshit. Just need to rant. I've interned for two full years part time as an undergrad in a STEM field. Turns out no one wants to count it because it part time despite being a full two years, not just over the summer or just during a semester like most. Couldn't get a job in my field for a long time. When I finally did get one, I was promised 3 months of internship then full time. Took a full year before I became full time, this was during covid, but that company got two PPP loans which idk what they used it on. During this time I was accepted into grad school so I said why not, I'm being severely underpaid anyway. Worked until school started and then quit. Fast forward through grad school in a different STEM field, got internship in my last semester at…

Ahh Delaware

Lately I’ve been seeing how my state is really a crappy place to work. As a right to work state they are are very pro employer. I just lost an unemployment case to o my former employer who I won’t name over bs reasons. And it’s making me think more and more how broken this system is. For instance the former employer wanted people to work for cheap as they are a corporation but get as much out of you as possible while trying to say they are the best place to work etc. How do other employees fall for it? I just don’t see ho they think that a corporation is so great.

got placed on a 30 day probation for attendance over pre approved time off.

I work in medical billing. My job is very easy. it could easily be a part time job. All my coworkers love to shoot the shit in the break & basically do anything but work. I however, like to get my work done and leave. I take a lot of pre scheduled time off. For vacation, appointments, random emergencies etc. Mostly all unpaid, and occasionally using my allotted PTO. My office is moving buildings, and the new office took 2.5 MONTHS longer than anticipated to finish construction. They had us driving an extra 20-25 minutes across town. (My commute is normally only 20 minutes so it’s doubling my commute time each way. I also normally work right down the street from my husband & we carpool to save gas) After this unexpected increase in my gas bill, and trying to work with my leads to avoid the commute, I emailed…

Mini but mighty Union voting to remove big bad boss

Unionized workers at the Department of Children Youth and Families in Washington state are pushing to “toss” their boss, Ross, through a Vote of No Confidence. The effort has been featured on King 5 and The Seattle Times, and it’s led to some pretty creative memes! Solidarity forever with MY union!! #RossNotMyBoss A few examples of why we have no confidence… -DCYF is a new agency established in 2018, and already has one of the highest turnover rates in the state. 18% of employees left in 2022 compared to 11.5% in 2021. -When the DCYF oversight board asked what he was doing to make staff feel supported, Ross Hunter replied, “probably not enough”. -Within the last 30 days, Ross met with line workers and proudly told them, “I know less about child welfare today than I did 5 years ago!” -Staff in child welfare and juvenile rehabilitation have been experiencing…

I (28M) got fired for “performance issues”, denied unemployment, and ended up finding out the company does a major “restructure” layoff because they hire too many people to kick them out a year later. Company agreed to a cash settlement. I’ll find someone who respects me now.

I'm here to share my recent ordeal of being abruptly fired from my job, a journey that highlights the struggles many of us face against corporate indifference. I hope my experience resonates with fellow members seeking support, camaraderie, and guidance in navigating the murky waters of the modern workplace. Backdrop: I'm a 28-year-old male who was let go in June due to alleged performance issues and rule violations, despite my history as a dedicated employee. The situation unfolded when my supervisor went on paternity leave, and his replacement terminated me the next day, June 22. Unfair Process During an Employee Review Meeting (ERM), I was denied union representation, leaving me defenseless. The company distorted events to paint me as an inept worker, disregarding my efforts to clarify the situation. Union efforts Working with my union president, we delved into my work history to uncover the truth. Unfortunately,…

Only 2 of my closest 10 people in life are employed

My brother, father, stepfather, grandmother, both uncles, and 2 close friends are all unemployed; and I make 9. The other two people, my mom and one friend born into a better upbringing are employed. People tell me all the time to step up and start earning my way. When the government has paid for your housing for the last 6 years and you see your loved ones starting to get older and no one can do anything about medical bills, support, or child care, it becomes obvious that I don’t even understand what stepping up could possibly look like. Or believe that it is possible at all. People say it’s me. I surround myself with people who aren’t doing a lot. I surround myself with my family; what else?

Do I move on or should I stay?

Last year on September, I landed a “nice” job at one of the world “biggest” company. It started off great, the work itself is easy to manage and I am comfortable doing it. However, with a new “team” approach” and “Management” started this year, things started turning to the worst. I started to see how my management “fixes” issues around the typical office issues but also understand the capabilities of the management. In shorter words, the management doesn't have the skills/capabilities to manage the issues and somehow manage to get by day to day. This is because they would assort to office politics to “shift” the blame and also dodge responsibility. Worst part is that they do not think it is an issue since they have been “in this office for more than 10+ years”. Recently I have gotten caught within this office politics and got an ear full on…

Who should I talk to

I’m 20m just getting my start in the workplace I started working at a local small town grocery store and this post is going to be very long so I’ll try to keep it as short as possible Since I started working there (over a year ago), there’s been a lot of shit that’s gone on where I’ve raised my eyebrow I’ll start with the little things. Only managers, deli, and meat department are full time. There are no grocery hours (except management) that are full time. Secondly there is a manager who has been embezzling money from the office for over a year which has led to hours being cut (from part-time employees thirdly the manager of the meat department has been repackaging old meat, and putting rotten meat out on the shelves and selling it since I’ve been working there. But that’s not just the end of it.…
