Got a new job last week as a sales administrator after 5 months of unemployment. I had mixed feelings about it because 1. All I wanted really was to find some work friends as I have been pretty lonely and 2. I have no reason to not be working and feel like I’ve been pressured to get a job. I have a problem with the contract that I’ve yet to sign. It states in it that I’m expected to be flexible with my hours and no overtime will be paid. The hours are 9am-5.30pm with a 1 hour unpaid lunch. The thing is, during my first week, the red flag for me was that they left me with nothing to do, twiddling my thumbs most of the time, until the clock hit 5.25pm, my line manager would come over asking me questions about the ongoing enquiries I have, or trying…
Concepts related to happiness
It is important to know a few simple concepts and measurements in order to understand the learnings of my life. In fact, there are three critical measurements connected to happiness: You need income high enough for you to do the things you like to do. Without any income, you are unlikely to be happy. Income is typically better when it is higher, and there is no upper limit. You need to have time to do what you want to do without sacrificing too much income. This is measured in terms of Days Paid but Not Worked per Year, abbreviated DPNWY and pronounced “dip·en·way.” A higher dipenway is typically considered better, and has a maximum value of 261 in the United States (the standard number of work-days in a year), although this number may vary internationally. Many people in the United States receive ten holidays and ten to twenty vacation days…
Pretty interesting stories
Would you be willing to give it all up?
I'm talking about modern life. Would you give it all up, good and the bad (which there is quite a lot of), for a life completely free, but also a bit more burdensome. Life to be lived with smaller communities on villages. Everyone specializing in their own local fields; one raising farm animals, other blacksmithing, one would teach kids, ect. Of course most would just become farmers. Where big companies and goverments could not control people, because no monetary profit would be made, only the essentials. Of course nothing comes without drawbacks. This would mean no complex technologies, no modern medicine, food would be more scarce, ect. But work would be with ones own rules. If you would not feel like working, you wouldn't need to. Everything would be up to you, and only you. I've been contemplating with this idea, and came to the conclusion that with right people…
Preemptive Victim Blaming
Don't tell my assistant manager that it would be her fault for getting shot during a robbery because she probably did something stupid. Her loyalty and my clerk's loyalty belongs to me as the store manager and not the company. Miss district manager is going to find out real quick that her district numbers aren't bad because of her team below her but her lack of caring and micromanagement. Overworked store managers, upset that we closed the store as a precaution due to the wildfire evacuation order across the street, no follow up to my Worker's Comp injury except for my Chain of Custody, the stupidity goes on. She says she had done the DM job for 10 years but we know that is a lie. Corporate visits next week. As a store, we don't care and are all going to walk at once. Have fun with that DM. Have…
Laying it down.
I hope I'm not judged, but the context should help. I live in America where they imprison more than thier fair share of people. I live in Texas where they lock up most of the worlds prisoners, to receive federal funding. It is big business. I am not a violent person, and nobody I know would consider me a criminal. I have seen first hand the power when the masses of oppressed people refuse to work. Now the officers have to do the work, and it's not in thier contract. The prison is losing money because they sell some of the free labor usually.( Yes in Texas they are paid 0.00) The officers union is complaining. Any advocates for inmates are demanding an explanation for the lockdown. Within 24 hours the warden is walking around talking to inmates. Asking what they want. These people started out as doing whatever they…
I know this is a very generic title but hear me out, I've just quit my job of 4 years because it was an incredibly toxic environment. It got so bad I was shaking from anxiety cutting cakes because they couldn't be a millimeter off, I worked in a very busy cafe. My former boss thinks of himself as a saint, he says he'll do anything for anyone but he does fuck all in reality and is an incredibly horrible individual. We had a storm a few months ago and he helped clear a tree out of the road, not out of kindness but because it'd give him a good reputation. Well anyway I don't think he realises a few of his employees are some of my best friends because all I've heard this weekend is how much shit he's been talking about me. Saying crap like, I did so…
