I’ll try to make this short. For the past 2 years, I’ve been working from home. 90% of my job can be done this way. I admit there are times where I have to go in. But not often. We are required to come in Mondays, Thursday’s, and one other day of our manager’s choosing. Luckily my manager is cool and let me choose, but I will be getting a new manager soon because of reorganization. I don’t want to go back 3 days per week. Period. It’s a total waste of my time, the commute is annoying, and I’m just so much happier especially with my social anxiety, being at home. Anytime someone tries to not come in the 3 days, some other employee reports it to HR. Should I put my foot down and tell my current and soon-to-be manager that I want to continue to WFH and…
Anyone else hate being ghosted?
I recently was offered a job at the beginning of February by a recruiter that was helping hire for another company. It was an intro level contract position for translation and started at 24/hr. The best part was that it came with all the benefits of a full time employee: health, dental, vision, 401k, life, and even pet. The recruiter also said that there was a possibility for promotion and going from 24/hr to anywhere from 36-48/hr. And since I was familiar with the company that was hiring, I wasn’t too worried about it being legit or not. So I was understandably excited. This recruiter said that he would keep me updated on the details, to email him or text him for updates, that he would send my info and resume to the project manager I would be under, and anything else that happened. Two weeks go by and I…
need to rant
Since I told work I'd be going back to school, they've been harder on me with passive aggressive comments and feedback. Last week I received my very first office warning ever. When I asked for examples of what I did wrong they couldn't give me any. So my partner says this is prep for termination with clause? So yesterday, someone called to ask where to send their CV for my receptionist position. My work didn't have the respect to tell me to my face they were looking for someone new. Do I give two weeks or just quit? (Been there 4 years, I'm in Ontario)
Started some online work training today and a coworker tells us her toddler daughter has been drawing and writing little inspirational messages for her while she works. Sounds cute right? She listed some examples that kinda horrified me, but didn't seem to phase anybody else. The “inspirational” message she listed: Mommy needs this job to pay for the house! Mommy needs this job for money! Mommy will be broke if she doesn't work! and more stuff like that. She also said her daughter made a joke about not having a “rich man” to help her. The manager laughed it off and called it adorable. I don't think a kid that young should even understand what rent is.
Venting (Topic: Loopholes)
Ok so please just be patient with me, if you have any advice it's appreciated… Since I know a lot of you here probably have a lot of work experience, more than I have, and I feel that the interviews/resumes for jobs are so annoying and tedious and you have to act all smart and be someone you're not to have a chance of being hired. Why can't employers just make their description more clear, like if we apply without a resume and don't do an interview and we just get hired we already know what we're getting ourselves into. But there's all this be kind, smile, blah blah blah like seriously can I just be myself? I've been through a lot at a young age and like I get it people want their companies to be successful. I could rant more but I think my point is made…
