fired.. for catching covid.

So I was an assistant store manager for a major Pizza chain. I had worked from the ground up, started off as a driver within six months they promoted me to shift leader, six months after that they promoted me to shift manager, and then just a couple months after that they promoted me to assistant general manager. Not trying to say Im better then anyone. I showed up on time every shift. Never called in, Never had complaints about me. Had a great working relationship with everyone. Got a new district manager about 6 months ago. She decided that the management team was the problem in the store that's the reason sales were down and speed wasn't fast enough. Although in that six months she had cut me down to a skeleton crew generally I was the only one in the store or me and one other person with…

My company just introduced an ‘unlimited paid leave’ policy and I think it’s absolute BS

Let me tell you why. Many employees like myself have been saving leaves in order to take a long vacation, or encashing them for money. But now that is gone. This also gives my company the power to not grant us long leaves because of ‘tight deadlines’ or some other bs. I considered quitting but they silently added another policy that if you resign, you have serve a 3 month notice period. A 3 month notice period deters any potential employer from hiring you. I’ve been rejected from a few jobs solely because of this. With the shitty salary I make, I absolutely do not have the luxury to wait three months for a job but I’m stuck. The job is physically and mentally draining on all the employees but unless you have some family support, you just cannot do anything about it. Just looking for a few supportive words…

Starting pay question

Im an aircraft mechanic applying for new work. Everywhere asks my starting phone at previous job and ending pay at previous job. I do not want to tell them I worked below industry standard rate for work experience, how do I avoid telling them my starting pay and ending pay professionally? It’s a small line with not a lot of space.

starting wage is what my raise is… help

Hey everyone, its annual raise time at my job. I went from 19.5 to 22 an hour. I was very happy orginally with this but I just found out the starting wage at our new branch is 22 with a $1000 sign on bonus. The new branch is in a more affordable area to live. I just bought a house and do not plan to move. My thoughts (along with my coworkers) is that our current raise amount should be stacked onto the now 22 base along with cost off living adjustments. What is the best way to bring this up to my manager?

Substitute Teaching

Out of curiosity, has anyone here tried substitute teaching? I am looking into it, and I am just curious what some of your experiences have been.

boss is saying I have to work more!

I'm a part time employee at a pet center. Currently im working 20-25 hours a week and my boss is saying I have to go full time or I'll be terminated. I should note he is new to the company, probably been there about six months. Do I have legal right to deny this?

How do I help my coworker understand math and inflation?

I was pissed our group got zero raises this year, my coworker was happy enough that he got 100% of target bonus, he said if he hadn't got close to 100% that would have been his nudge to look for another role. I asked him why yet another year of no raise was not the que and he said “what's another $1k a year?” How do you wake someone up to the fact that they are making 7% less if inflation is 7% and wage growth is 0%, or that it's fun to get a $5k bonus but if you keep accepting 0% raises that hurts you way more over time than not getting 100% of your target bonus?

Anyone else have a former coworker transition into middle management?

This just happened to me. We got along fine, but this person's demeanor immediately changed to a textbook linkedin-cringe-fest, and after having been reading this subreddit for awhile my perspective on the utility of middle management has become pretty negative, so I can feel my respect for this person about to decrease significantly, unfortunately. I feel we have lost another to the brainwashing of the necktie. I will raise a glass to the working class later today. Cheers.

I quit a committee

At work we have volunteer committees that take on projects outside the normal scope of work in order to accomplish things. It's made up of people from various disciplines in the company and is designed to provide perspective. You do the work on company time but you still have to do your job. My committee has been super demanding of my time and I'm already very busy doing my actual job. It doesn't really do much for me career wise other than being a line item on my resume. I finally realized yesterday that I'm volunteering go work harder for no tangible benefit. I don't like anyone in the group and there's no reward. So I resigned. Apparently no one resigns they just do it until their assignment changes and they can't do it anymore. So, thanks r/antiwork for opening my eyes.
