I'm currently employed at a bank here in the Philippines but I already expressed my intent to resign. I submitted my resignation last February 14 with a 30-day notice, thus completing the 30-day notice period on March 16. My supervisor already signed and acknowledged my resignation letter and I am about to prepare the necessary documents/clearance for me to properly quit my job. By the way, I've also been accepted at a different job which I will be starting on March 21. The thing now is, I got to talk to my supervisor and she said she can't proceed with my resignation since I haven't turned over my tasks/responsibilities. I couldn't do the turn over since they haven't assigned anyone to replace me. She insisted that I extend my resignation on the 31st which makes it a conflict to my soon-to-be job. My question now is, what should I do?…

I worked at a smoothie shop in Florida. I've been working here for nearly a year. I have not been super familiar with the labor laws regarding tipping until recently. I quit my job because of it. Everyday the tip jar gets filled to the brim because we area small business that the community loves. However, unless you are an “eligible employee” according to my boss/manager you are unable to participate in the tip pool. I am not understanding of this policy which includes having to know how to perform and clean both the smoothie station and the sandwich station. (It's a hybrid shop) The last step is knowing how to deal with the register. These are all stations that deal with heavy customer interaction and serving. A tip pool was questioned and that was our answer followed by, “We all chip in somehow, you do XYZ and everyone does…
The venue we work at has pulled some shady shit. They “overhired” on purpose and then cut more than half the staff basically without warning. They decided that instead of laying staff off, they would just stop giving hours to people until they quit on their own. Many many other things on top of that. Don’t wanna get too much into it publicly yet. Looking to see if other venues/employees/staff have had similar experiences. Would love to “compare notes”. THIS IS IMPORTANT
Almost no one gets a pension these days. I got one when I started my job in 2002 But while GW Bush was in office they decided to make full-time 32 hours and wouldn’t give anyone who worked 32 hours or less a pension or healthcare. And guess what? No one ever got more than 32 hours ever ever again. On top of that people had to get a second job to make ends meet. And all those hours we worked more than eight per day and 40 per week before they changed it to 32 hours? We never got a cent extra. Thank you Republicans. Easy for you to judge when you have a union and made mega money working overtime with excellent health care and a great pension plus TSP. And let’s not forget all the benefits that veterans receive working for the post office. That doesn’t happen…
Like the title says. I work for Jimmy Johns. Its a shit job with shit pay and we deal with a migraine-inducing level of disrespect and stupidity from customers on a daily basis. Couple that with the extremely OCD General Manager with a penchant for micromanaging, and his own ability to victimize himself in every situation, (for real, if you have a complaint about anything, the conversation always devolves into how bad HIS life is) you have a recipie for an extremely stressful work environment. So we ended up completely slammed with business during lunch today, and the customers were extra relentless and rude. Orders ended up incredibly backed up, meanwhile the order-ticket machine just keeps spitting out online orders, which causes the GM to freak out and start getting aggressive and angry. Well, in the midst of everything, i went to the back of the store to grab some…
It pays quite well, but not as much as other potential jobs in this field. Why would I want to work for him? He, was a nice enough guy, but he literally looked like he was on the verge of a heart attack or panic attack. He's been on the job for less than a year and he looks defeated. And he's around 30-35 years old and should be in the prime of his life. Is any pay worth that amount of stress? Were humans made to experience these levels of stress, each day, just to have a home and food? Also, if, by his own admission, the requirements of the job are too stressful for everyone, why not just reduce the requirments of the job, and let people breathe a little bit?
Toilet for one
This happened yesterday, i was driving and felt the need to urinate, no gas station nor public toilets in sight, i stopped at a detail shop and asked a guy about the toilets, he told me there's only one in the back which might be occupied, the rest are out of service. Went to the back, the toilet looked worse than even your average gas station one (depends on where you live of course), there's even a “please don't urinate on the wall” written right next to the toilet, it was a scene straight out a movie, i thought to myself i wonder why this happens in the first place. The shop is packed with fancy cars and i counted more than 15 workers at that place, i bet the shop makes 5 figures daily in revenue, yet the employer decides not so spend a fraction of that on his…
My 50 cent raise for 5 years
My worthless union steward and union rep up until our contract negotiation told us at our satellite office and our main Seattle office that they were going for a $4.00-$5.00 an hour raise for the next 3 years. Well, voting day comes and what happens…me and my coworkers at our satellite office never got to look at the contract with us participating in the vote over Zoom and the drivers at the Teamsters office in Tukwila see everything and they vote all in favor of a $5.00 increase, then they tell us we will be getting in our satellite location a 50 cent increase. We didn't even get to vote as the link they sent to us arrived two hours AFTER the meeting, and was time sensitive so after 10 minutes, the link disappeared. And the union rep tried to play me and my three coworkers for idiots saying “oh…
Bartender here. So my boss seems to think punctuality is a requirement of everyone but herself. Whenever we have interviews lined up she tells me to make note of anyone who shows up late. (I don’t because I literally don’t care) Usually she is in the back office or hasn’t even arrived yet and she just calls to tell me what times the interviews are for. I’ve noticed however, that more often than not SHE is the one who is late. The hypocrisy just really gets to me. The last straw for me was when one guy waited almost 40 mins for her to finally show up, make herself coffee, talk to the chef about something that absolutely could have waited, chatted for 10 mins with a customer/acquaintance, before FINALLY sitting down to conduct the interview. He did not accept the job when she contacted him to start training. shocking…
