“Dear Dr.last nameX.” Well thanks for the super personalized recruiting email, but I don't think corporate veterinary medicine is in my future.
Im not my efficiency expectation
I accepted this job as an associate and have assumed 50% more responsibility and excelled at it. I asked for a promotion with a raise and our HR basically blames me for accepting a low salary and started question why I was so ~unsatisfied~ with my salary. For context, I did ask for a salary adjustment a year ago when I learned I was severely underpaid (disclosed by my ex-manager) Now I’m asking for a promotion since I’m already doing the tasks for the next role anyway, and somehow it’s my fault my associate salary doesn’t match my manager tasks Time to look for a new job
I’m currently a college student and like many of you, I hate the idea of working some shitty minimum wage job and constantly be mistreated by managers and employers. I worked for McDonalds a month in high school and despite saying I could only work 5-10 hours, they’d constantly give me 15-20 hours and complain when I’d put up shifts. I don’t wanna do that again and I also have a passion for tutoring so I’ve decided to see if I could do that as a job in college. Google says the average price of a private tutor is $25-90 per hour. I’m currently charging $20/hour and the minimum wage in my town is $14.78 (in July it’ll be $15.70). I still want to be affordable to low income folks, however, so in the event that someone can’t afford it (which hasn’t happened yet), I’d just tell them I can…
For anonymity, will say that I work at a workplace which got a new boss recently. She immediately is trying to demonstrate she is in control and name dropping random books. Worst offense is that she quoted that bullshit book, radical candor. The only instances I have seen that book being used is by people clearly in position of asymmetric power and were either ignorant or obliviously unaware of their power dynamic. The book originally barely passable in its original format and since has been bastardized by pompous asses to give themselves a free license to be a complete moron. Like no, I don’t need your candor, I need you to maintain professional etiquette and decorum appropriate to workplace. Anyways, how do I fuck with them? Need HR friendly advice please!
My father came from a long line of entrepreneurs and decided to start his own business after he should have retired. Being the dutiful child, I helped him wherever I could, wearing multiple hats, worked long hours (including weekends and holidays) while he gave everyone else larger salaries, more authority, and even gave them the permission to micromanage me as well as threaten to fire me if I didn't measure up. The worst part is he pays me the absolute least, and he still thinks he is overpaying me even though no one would do my job at the amount he pays me. Everyone asks me if I am going to be the successor to my father, but he would rather bankrupt the company or give it to someone instead of giving my any control over anything which is why he put me in charge of IT where my job…
