Yesterday's Evening Show with Arjen Lubach was about the Dutch delivery company PostNL, more specifically, the bad working conditions of their employees who often end up peeing in bottles due to lack of time / underpayment. Company representative is shameful enough to complain about fixed contracts because they incorporate “nonsensical social levies” allowing people to have sick leave, pension, and other such “bullshit” social insurances. So they opt for hiring cheaper freelancers (sub-contractors) whose wage is calculated solely on the basis of delivered package count. If no-one is at home you simply don't get payed. Pech gehad, as we say it in the Netherlands. The company is making huge profits which they spend on buying stock while their employees (salaried employees and freelancers alike) are having a hard time trying to get by. Now PostNL's showing off by organizing a special day on which ordinary people are supposed to express…
My coworker had her review, and was told the line above. Give me your best responses! Edit: My review is today.
I’m at my end here
I am struggling at work (burnout for months) and talked to my boss about what’s been going on. I have to meet with the person I assist and my boss now. There’s no point. I’m going to take the first job that hires me just to get out of this place for my health. I ended up telling my boss that I’m looking for another job. She didn’t believe me and kept telling me that this can be fixed. Meeting was going to be Friday. Now it’s today (decided last night) during down time. I haven’t slept a lot. Forced myself to eat last night. My anxiety is through the roof. Im in awe that I wasn’t believed and now I have to have meetings to fix things that aren’t even going to matter in the next few weeks. Im stressed, extremely depressed, and don’t know what to do besides…
I know this is not news for anyone on this sub, I just hate how employees are afraid of the companies they work for, this culture built around thanking the employer for giving you a job opportunity just makes me sick and makes me want to smack my colleagues in the face until they wake up from their deep slumber. Rant over
I live in the UK, and at every job I’ve had (from part time stuff at 16yo to my job now with a huge financial information firm) they don’t pay you during your breaks. When I worked at a restaurant we got a 30min break during our 8hr minimum shift. But the restaurant was at a golf course in the middle of nowhere, so it’s not like we could go offsite and do anything for the 30mins. Having to be somewhere for 8hrs and finding out I only get paid for 7.5hrs was a real slap in the face when I saw my first paycheck. All those 30min increments really took a chunk out of my salary. It’s the same thing at my company now. If you count the fact that I’m there 9am to 5.30pm then I make less than minimum wage. Add in travel time and it gets…
I’m good. Thanks though!
President Teddy Roosevelt: “We stand for a living wage. Wages are subnormal if they fail to provide a living for those who devote their time and energy to industrial occupations. The monetary equivalent of a living wage varies according to local conditions, but must include enough to secure the elements of a normal standard of living–a standard high enough to make morality possible, to provide for education and recreation, to care for immature members of the family, to maintain the family during periods of sickness, and to permit of reasonable saving for old age.” Citation: https://www.ssa.gov/history/trspeech.html
