I’m sorry, I know this is a bad joke but I’m feeling beat after being laid off last month and humour is my coping mechanism. I also can’t stand all of those “work hard and it’ll pay off” types of posts I keep seeing everywhere. I’ve been working for this employer for just over two years, and I’ve given it everything I had. When I started this role, the company had a huge backlog of projects that needed to be dealt with and I managed to cut that backlog in half, started and finished new projects, worked extra hard to meet their unreasonable expectations and always received positive feedback from my two bosses. But apparently none of that was enough, because upper management decided to cut our department’s budget and discontinue mine and other coworkers’ positions. Now they’re struggling to find someone else in the company to take on the…

coworker threatened me
I have a side job working in a restaurant. It was busy and this coworker was raging the entire shift. At the end of the night he didnt clean after himself and left a huge mess. I said thats not cool, you should clean after yourself instead of leaving it for others. He began yelling, cursing and acting crazy until we were separated. He motioned to the door and said “Do you want to go outside?” I just said he has a bad attitude and ignored him. He yells “Everyone wants to be tough until its time to be tough! I was going to clean it!” I havent reported him yet, my instinct is to address the person first. But after thinking about it Im pretty sure he will react the same way again. He yells about wanting to fight someone often. So then I figured Id just skip that…
American work cultures help contribute to a society that's complacent with evil, at best, and helps bring it forth at worst. Hierarchical systems with top-down leadership models train us to think like authoritarians. As democracy erodes, is it any surprise? Anything but compliance is betrayal. Self-preservation turns us all into the “good” Nazis who can't risk speaking out on small matters, let alone large ones, and while I'm glad I've made truly costly sacrifices by speaking up, in more ways than one, I also deeply regret how unavoidable it is to make a living without contributing to our fascistic work culture. I never thought of anti-work as anti-fascist but it is through and through.
Perfection!
I’m so f*cking disappointed. This was a panel interview with the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Hiring Manager, and other directors. This position pays almost 200k. Today, I showed up to the interview and the room was locked. No one was there. I called the admin assistant and she said that the hiring manager already told her that he would contact me to cancel the interview. I did not receive any emails or calls. So disrespectful and unprofessional.
$0.95 raise.
Been with the company 1 year while picking up the slack everywhere. Got stellar reviews. They hit me with a $0.95 raise with no negotiation potential. New hires make more than me even after my raise. This is BULLSHIT.
Stuck in the middle
So I took a new position where I have 2 employees that report to me, but I don’t have supervisory responsibilities over them. I’m the middle man, non-management and union protected. One of the tech’s has been around 3 months longer than I have, and he is giving me the most problems. He has become increasing difficult to work with, and it has become obvious he does not have the correct skill set to perform his job. Every job assignment is met with push back as to why he can’t do this job, normally I would refer to my/our supervisor but he is not a very competent leader and doesn’t know how to document these deficiencies. Even though we are union protected, we are both serving a 1 year probationary period. As the dept lead, I have voiced my concerns and issues that I have with this employee to my…
What can I do for income?
I'm unemployed and have been searching for jobs for a month with no luck and I have bills to pay. I would try doordash or something in the mean time but I don't live in a big city so I don't think I would make much. I tried to look for job openings on my state's unemployment website but the website glitches out and doesn't show the jobs that are within my skill area. Not sure anymore at this point.
