Question for those that have seen it/experienced it in the healthcare field: have you been in a strike before?

Let’s just say many things are happening in the sterile processing department right now, all correlated to a certain brand new toxic manager. It’s been 3 weeks and it’s only getting worse. To the point of counter-productivity due to this manager’s decisions. We’ve ALL contacted as much of the chain of command as we could, including HR, and nothing will be done. Of course not, because they think we’re piles of shit that do nothing right. Honestly we can only go so high in command, cause honestly we all know anyone executive and in upper management could care less about who’s working in these hospitals. In all specialties. So… this is just personal research 🙂 what have you guys done if you’ve been on strike? Or went somewhere for a strike contract? What did they do to strike? Were there results? Just would like to know 🙂

Why do people take such pride in being workaholics to the deferment of the rest of their life to reward corporations who wouldn’t care if they die?

I know so many people who take such pride and sense of identity for being a diehard worker who gives it their all, never phones in sick, rarely takes holidays etc but don’t actually seem to get any benefits from it. I do my job very well, I’m competent in my role and constantly look to improve my skills and have been rewarded for doing so financially. As far as dedication goes. I’m on time everyday but I leave on time everyday. I don’t do beyond what is reasonable, I take holidays and have no issues with being off sick for however long is needed. I’m of the mindset that this is an exchange of skills for money. Is this just a weird people pleasing defect, a personal boundary issue or have these people been brainwashed? I could understand if this was about greed or personal gain but these people…

How do I assertively ask for a raise?

My one year ‘anniversary’ with this company is coming up at the end of the month and I want to ask for a performance review and a raise. For more context, I am a server working with elders so legally we don’t get tips (while also experiencing the same stress from a regular restaurant) and i only make about .50 above minimum wage (CA). While there are many times where I’ve had to call out, be late or ask for time off (I am a full time student), I am one of the very few servers that go above and beyond, and is highly loved by the clients. We are a small team and everybody is essential. According to higher ups we’re “fully staffed” but yet there are days we struggle. If I was to quit, it would definitely be noticed and be an inconvenience to the rest of the…

Objections to BS return to office arguments?

Maybe we can crowdsource a master list of the best objections to the BS reasons our bosses are giving us to come in person. Would love to hear the reasons your bosses gave you and what you replied. Even better if it worked. I'll go first. My bosses are demanding we work in-person because: “For collaboration” video calls exist… “Because people aren't as productive at home” we've been working remotely, no missed deadlines, equally if not more productive… Bonus secret reason: “Our office space is $25,000/month” Don't lease a building you can't afford! Have you considered skipping the Starbucks and avocado toast?

Boss takes credit for work/steals flowers

Hi all, Today was the final straw at work. One of my colleagues was working on an incredible community project, which our boss tried to sabotage this event from the beginning. The presentation went well and the boss took all of the credit for it. The real kicker was some community members presented her with flowers, even though my colleague did everything. The boss sent out an email stating how wonderful it was they gave her flowers and my colleague responded how much she liked the flowers/needed to know where they were from because she wanted to get her own. And after 10pm, the boss sent a text message to all of our personal phones with a photo of the flower, stating how much she was enjoying them in her apartment. I’m so disgusted. This woman is so narcissistic and abusive. She has no boundaries and she undervalues everyone. We…

How do you sit in a cubicle all day?

I’m in the office 5 days a week as a commerical banker. It’s very monotonous to go in everyday and see the same cubicle over and over. Does anyone know how to bring more life to the cube life? Anyone else hate cubicles?

IT On-Call Policy Advice

Does anybody know labor laws in California that well when it comes to On-Call Policies? I work in IT, and the company that “employs” us is based in India and provides service to a company (customer) in California. We recently went through a shift, and shifted from one company to the other. Same thing, different names. Ever since the new shift everything has been so hectic. We're about 3 months into the new company, and we still don't have a defined on-call policy. My management has been making up rules on the fly as we go, and it's really starting to get to us. We went from being restricted, to no restrictions and a loose “1-2 hour response time”. Instead of standby, they were doing block hours, where ticket = 2 hour pay, but as of today they've taken that away. We've been told that our overtime for on-call is…

Company made AI it’s CEO

https://www.dqindia.com/company-makes-ai-robot-its-ceo-makes-record-breaking-profits-in-stock-market/ I don't think anyone here will be surprised that AI can do the work of a CEO but what does this mean for the antiwork ideology? Seems like if this catches on it should hasten the general public accepting that most jobs are becoming superfluous and UBI as the inevitable future.

Working with COVID positive coworker

Hey guys!! I work for a small family business, there are 5 of us working in a warehouse together. On Friday my coworker tested positive for COVID, they let us know via text and asked if we could do more hours to cover. Five days later the positive coworker came back to work, still showing symptoms but wearing a mask. My issue is they never let us know she was coming back and I'm pretty sure this is because it happened last year with a different coworker and I told them if that coworker came in I would like to stay home. I know the pandemic stuff has sort of blown over and there aren't any restrictions anymore but if I get covid it means I will have to miss travelling back home (for the first time since before Christmas) for my niece's birthday because my nan is unwell and…

My partner was set up for failure, was promised it wouldn’t happen again, was set up to fail tomorrow.

My partner (K) is was the Merchandising Manager for a retail chain store that sells random stuff for Below a certain price point. They're supposed to have 12 employees, including four managers. They have 5 (three managers plus two part timers). This morning, she showed up at the store, and there weren't any other employees to open (rules say they're supposed to have two). So, after calling the store manager (didn't answer) and the district manager (didn't answer), K started working her freight with the doors locked. Working freight is her job. It's not a customer facing position. When the District Manager found out the store wasn't open at 11:30, he flipped out and started calling other stores. Surprise, no one had staff to help because EVERYONE is on a skeleton crew. The store manager still wasn't responding. So… K broke down and left. She could either run registers, work…
