Left after first day

Okay so I'm from the Philippines and I was hired to teach English to Japanese students via online means. Pretty simple, right? Except they made me travel 25 kilometers (Cubao, Quezon City to Alabang, Muntinlupa City) just to be on site. Normally, I wouldn't mind the travel since I love exploring to new places but given how fucked up the transportation system in this country and the pandemic, it made things difficult. I had to travel for 2 hrs just to be there in that office. Things were great in that office, to be fair, and I jelled well with the fellow newbies but I kept on thinking how'll I go home. After our shift, the train there (PNR) was not running cuz an earthquake made them stop ops. Lowkey I was panicking since I have to take the long route just to go home. There was a car heading…

He threw a milkshake on me because I got his order wrong

Idk if this belongs here, but when I was 18, my first job was working at a Chick fil a. I was working through the summer to save up for my freshman year of college. I live in Texas so the summers here are just face-meltingly hot, especially when you work for 6 hours in the outside drive thru of Chick fil a. I'm not sure if it's like this in other states, but here, our Chick Fil a stores are packed with people from open until closing so workers have to stand outside to take orders and direct traffic. I was one of those workers when I had a customer order over 80 dollars worth of food. He was short with me and snapped his order at me, complaining that the line was too long. Every time I would punch in a new part of his order he would…

“Working for a European company is amazing!”

I feel like any time someone brings up European companies it's to laud how well they take care of their employees and all the benefits and perks they lay on their workers company wide. So imagine my surprise when my company here in the US was bought out by a company HQ'd in Denmark, a country with one of the highest worker satisfaction ratings on the planet. A few weeks ago they enacted their first policy change. This change was to the attendance policy, where the number of sick and personal days we have was changed from six, to two days per calendar year. If I am sick or need to miss work for any reason more than twice per year, I will be written up and escalated to termination. Every company on the planet cares about you only to the extent they are legally required to do so, or…

My grandmother is in the hospital and suddenly developed dementia symptoms. All she can talk about is “having lost all her money.” This sick society has conditioned her to fear her entire life and now all her internal dialogue is coming out. Doesn’t this say a lot about the condition of our society?

Fuck this system

I work 40+ hours a week making 13 an hour (which is shitty but still above average for my state) and yet I still will probably get evicted next month cause I get no paid sick leave (had a covid scare) and missed half a month of work. My bosses compensation? a 100 dollar visa gift card…fuck this system and anyone who supports it.

Quit my job during annual review discussion

Earlier this year I was on a good path and was assured I am to get a promotion which entailed better compensation and benefits, which never happened due to unexplained to me reasons. I decided to suck it up and continue grinding until the annual review cycle finished. During the discussion where I got to find out my results I was told that I am unfit for the promotion and I will only be getting a 3% increase in terms of salary which doesn't even match the inflation happening in my country at all. I briefly interrupted my manager to let him know I am quiting, excused myself out of the Zoom call and drafted my letter of resignation. Still had to do my 1 month notice period, needles to say there was friction. During that time I found a job that pays double what I was making with better…

I’m sick of “recruiters” contacting me on LinkedIni interested in my background and when I ask for pay information they want me to complete an application! Like WTF?

Basically the titles says it all, like madam, I don’t want to be rude but please if you’re the one contacting me don’t make me work to get the most important detail of your “great opportunity”. I’m sick of it, is like if they want to get applications and have no other tactics. Grrrrrr!
