Obs.: English is not my 1st language, so sorry in advance and I'll clarify anything that comes up in the comments as needed. So I'm currently working in a big education company. We offer affordable college to people that wouldn't have the opportunity to graduate otherwise. Still profit driven and a lot of possible problematic conversations are possible, but still… Better than my previous job in a bank. I'm happy with my role and I see the direct management and up to VP being widely focused in delivering quality education to our students/clients. My manager just hired a trans man with almost no skills to support me in my attributions, and put me in charge of giving him the tools to grow skills in excel, power bi, etc. And I'm genuinely happy to do so as in my country is very hard to trans people to get good jobs. Also,…
Outsmarted the “smart man”
Been working at my company for 3 years and I’ve become the “do it all guy” . We’ll recently new hires have been started at a wage higher than mine I took my complaint to the GM and told me there’s nothing he can do but wait till next quarter to “work out a raise” well I took it as a sign that maybe I’ll get what I deserve . Next quarter comes and I was told a raise couldn’t be approved right now I told him this might be my last two weeks then and he preceded to say “the last thing we want is for anyone to go” so since I had already basically put my quitting notice I decided to text my Supervisor from another number inquiring about (me) as if I had applied for another job just to fuck with them . Next day I was…
Last Thursday night I had a mental breakdown at work and vented to my boyfriend and both him and our friend came over to check if I was okay. I was absolutely miserable. The next day I was helping them move our friends stuff and decided to talk to me about my situation. I was being mistreated and already got fucked over because they payed 5.50 instead of 15 for 9 hours of work on Thanksgiving, lied to me about giving me a day off while having me work on my days off this week, and moving my ten hour shifts to thirteen hour shifts on Saturdays. So I texted my boss that I got a better job opportunity and quit almost an hour and a half before my shift. Then he started calling me demanding to tell him what's going on even after I told him I quit and…
*sniff* so proud of my wife
My wife works part-time in a customer service job in the US that invovles cleaning and food prep. Not going to name her employer or role because she still works there. But anyone in the US should know what min-wage cleaning /food prep/customer service is like. She gets shitted on left and right by customers. Some of the stories she's told me … I told her I would have rage quit if a customer or manager ever treated me that way. I've told her many times she does not need to work, but for reasons that elude me, she's insisted on sticking it through. She makes around 10K working part-time customer service and I make 180-200K as a senior software developer. We're in a low cost-of-living area, and the house is paid off. If she needed to quit, I have side consulting work where I could make up the difference…
I applied to a corporate position at a large tech company that I thought would be interesting. They wanted to interview me, but I never got to the interview because of the internal recruiter. They sent me two emails on a Wednesday at 10am. Most of it is basic stuff — telling me they'd like to talk to me, asking me to give them my availability, as well as answer all these questions (why here, why you, etc.). I work on the questions while doing my other work and give them available times by 4pm the same day. By the time I respond, I see they sent a calendar invite at 3pm with a tentative call scheduled for the next week. I respond politely saying that I see they scheduled this before having my availability, but I am not available at the time they “tentatively” scheduled. You know what the…
