When I hear the phrase, I think to myself “Is this really a thing I want to be going through College for? Working 9 to 5 all week for the rest of my life for a paltry hourly wage?” I still don’t know the answer to that question.

So I worked as a research assistant for my alma mater's lab for about two years. Some shady stuff went on with my hour slowly getting less and then getting to zero for at least a year while I was still considered an employee. My hours went to zero suspiciously shortly after I filed a formal disability accommodations request with HR, and I had been socially pushed out of the loop and repeatedly ignored by multiple coworkers long before that. The for a long time while I had zero hours, I was getting paid a “COVID stipend” of about $22 a month and was told that I was now a “resource employee” and that they “couldn't find the right project for me to work on”. My coworkers did not have anywhere near zero hours and the place did not shut down at all for the pandemic and just moved everything…
So, a few days ago, my manager pulled me to the side, let's call her 'Emily' for privacy purposes, and it's no secret I take medication as I have to get someone to cover me so I can take them. So, Emily pulls me to the side, and tells me that while she knows that I take medication to help me function (to the extent she doesn't know. I am entirely dysfunctional so not taking these are not an option), but she tells me I need to brush my hair and take better care of myself. I get it my hair is super duper frizzy but I brushed my hair that morning and my uniform was spotless. Idk, sorry for the vent, it just really sat wrong with me.
What is exit interview?
What is asked in an exit interview? Is it a good idea to bitch about your boss and tell HR that he is the reason you are unhappy and leaving?
I'm a 2IC for a small but popular retail chain in Western Australia. We've mostly avoided the pandemic thanks to having a pretty clued in Premier (think Governor but Australian), but recently because of the omicron outbreak we've had to start wearing masks again. Don't get me wrong, wearing a mask sucks. It makes it hard to breathe, and I can get a pretty sore throat after 9 hours of wearing one. But you know what? I push through, because I don't want to put myself or anyone else at risk. Our area manager has a KPI that says he cannot have more than 6 customer complaints per month, or else he loses his bonus. They don't have to be valid complaints, just complaints. Unfortunately, this means he has told us to just ignore people who don't wear masks, and never to ask them to wear one if they don't…
Deal or no deal
My Fiancé had been in her job for around a month now. The job description had said, she would be working Mon to Fri with every other Saturday off and every Sunday and bank holiday being off. ( United Kingdom ) So far she hadn't had one Saturday off and she generally feels like she neither has personal life nor any time for our relationship. I work as a head chef and part time musician late in to the evenings so as a consequence we are like passing ships. The conversation at home mostly comes down to talking about her issues in work , and it gets very frustrating, repeating your self with advices , and no action being taken out of fear of the bosses reaction. Well today, the bubble had burst and after careful planning, she had submitted her resignation. To my disbelief , the owners of the…

my friend was recently fired from mcdonald’s. she had covid and obviously couldn’t go into work so they replaced her. she went to return her washed, dried, and folded uniform to get her check. they said they wouldn’t be giving it to her until she brought the uniform back dry cleaned, with the tag attached, in the bag. she told me the uniform wasn’t dry cleaned when she got it cause there was no dry cleaners tag attached. are they allowed to do this?
Why is every job interview like this?
Interviewer: “We notice that you change jobs roughly every so often. We're looking for a long term commitment.” Me: “No problem, as you can see I've stayed with several companies for longer terms, but had different positions within those companies. Interviewer: Oh right… Also, if we continue the company will offer a 6 month contract through a recruitment/employment agency which comes down to at-will employement and when that period was satisfactory they might offer a 6 – 11 month contract with another 2 month probation (but there's a good chance of being offered a permant position afterwards). That's just standard, everyone who makes it through the inital time of recruitment/employment agency, generally won't be reminded of their probation in the next contract, since by then the company will know how well you function.” Me: “Nevermind.”
