Alright ladies and gentlemen, I have a story to tell. After reading everything, I ask that you give your opinion. For the past 18 months, I have worked as a server for a particular steakhouse “in front” of your eyes. The job itself was fine, I found that I enjoyed it and was very good at it! I quickly made myself known. This particular place was very dependent on seniority/capability. (You start with 3 table section. By the time I left I had 10-12 tables). Though honestly I tried to help beyond just being a good server. I would make suggestions about better ways of doing things, I would voice the opinion of the staff when no one else wanted to say anything. Honestly the coworkers were great, but the manglement would ALWAYS try to screw people over. The easiest example is their introduction of the SA position. They attempted…

My employer put out a survey this evening to hourly staff, to gauge interest in special lockers for personal items (phones) to go into during our shifts. The lockers would be mandatory, “but each locker is equipped with a usb port for a phone charger to plug into!” Staff can unlock the lockers at designated times (beginning of the day, breaks, lunch, and end of the day). Or if staff had some sort of emergency, the supervisors would be able to get into the lockers. The answer choices were 0-10. 10 was along the lines of “This is a great idea, and will increase productivity.” 5 was “I’m indifferent to this idea.” 0 was “This idea would lead me to seek employment elsewhere.” It went about as well as you might think. One of the staff wrote on the bottom of the page, “I’m quitting just because you even thought…
So full confession, I am management in a family business. But I feel that the folks in here should hear about this, because its the kind of garbage that is being tossed around at my level. I had a couple guys come in and wanted to talk to me. They were from the NFIB, the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Basically, they're supposedly lobbyists for small businesses. Honestly, rimshot at this point. So they had a bunch of right wing screeds they were putting out, which just made me laugh. I suppose assuming a lot of small business people are on the right wing is playing the odds, but not in this case. Asked me what is my major federal concern, and I said healthcare, and that I think its a pro-business point of view to have universal healthcare (its good for fucking everybody unless you're part of the vulture…
Nonprofit life is wild, y’all.
Is this a thing in adult (and by adult, I mean a work place where everyone is physically, mentally and emotionally, ok, for the most part adult) work environment? A friend's boss' boss told her that she were being insubordinate to her boss because she challenged her boss' “your guilty” assumption and told him to ask before he accused her. Btw, this is the second boss that is acusing her of not doing something she already did. If you followed this train of thought, give yourself a gold star. Quite actually asking for a friend.
Justified anger? How to respond?
I just finished my second year of law school. Law students usually work for attorneys while they’re in school and I’m no exception. I started at my current job a year ago this month at a small criminal defense law firm in a big city. I do research on statues and case law, go through evidence/discovery, brainstorm or research defenses, write memos and motions for the court, and some other things. My boss also treats me like IT staff and GeekSquad/tech security person and like an administrative/executive assistant where he asks me to type emails he dictates for him sometimes. The IT/exec assistant were not part of the job description. I’ve consistently been praised for performance, going above and beyond to find ways to help clients, and for high quality work. I have directly contributed to hundreds of thousands of dollars in property being returned to clients, reduced sentences or…
