So my best friend for a long time is working in the same field as me now and has a same level job. I earn 5 times his salary with basically the same job and experience. I work 8 hours a day on a flexible basis, he has minimum 2 hours a day to do and basically no limit. This ends up in him working 6 to 9(pm) everyday, even weekends, holiday and during a trip even if he took a day off. His manager expects him to do this work and also not to tell HR that he his doing so much because -jokingly- “then he would maybe get a raise and they couldn't be able to afford such an amazing employee”. He has no rights to get any overtime back since it is stated in his contract and he doesn't inform HR. I don't do overtime except if…

Trying to promote gone wrong
I let my manager know I wanted to promote out of overnights by myself and instead of actually teaching me day time operations. He gets upset with me as to why I didn't do extra work such as putting away an order. I feel like they're just using me at this job and have no intentions of building me up. I have requested to change locations because of this.
i was heavily pressured into getting a very low paying part time job ($13 an hour/ 25 hours a week) that is around 15 minutes one way from my house. the only reason i interviewed was because the indeed ad said $16 an hour and full time, but when i went in they said the best they can do is $13.13 an hour and up to 25 hours a week part time, with no guarantee they could even give me that many hours. the thing is i have a college degree and i calculated that even if i am working 30 hours a week, with gas and the time i spend driving, i will not even have 50% of what i need to pay my current bills. i do currently have an online business that pays me more than this job would. i have other jobs that are going to…
Job References are annoying
I don't like how the ability to get a new job is based upon what the other job says about you. Its not fair. I have a former boss refused to provide a reference after I was a good employee but left because the pay sucked. Now the new job need a new reference to speak with. Any ideas. Im tired of my former employers band mouthing me to new jobs.
Thanks everyone for advice
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that has given advice to people that were not paid. I am in that situation now and immediately reported them to the Bureau of Labor Laws Compliance. They tried to bribe me with an additional 5% on my paycheck, but I refused. Just pay your fine to the State. I wouldn't have known where to go if it weren't' for this site!
Extend my probation?
Was at a sales job for 3 months which wouldn't stop talking about how “were a family” and talking about all our futures there in 5-10 years and so on. I would hit my monthly sales targets as well and never acted unhappy at work. We had a meeting a couple weeks before this and they asked to rate my happiness at this job on a scale of 1 to 10. I said 7.5 and they didn't seem pleased with my answer. 2 weeks later once my 3 months was coming to an end they said my performance had “gone down” and that they needed to extend my probation by a week and in that week needing to really prove how much I wanted to work there with an almost unrealistic goal. They said it didn't matter that I was hitting my sales targets but I didn't seem like someone…
I used to work for the largest videogame retailer in the UK (I'm sure you can all guess who). In around 2008, give or take a year, everyone in our head office received an email stating everyone's annual pay. This email was sent by the newish Commercial Director and it led to some excitable, angered and embarrassed conversations. People doing pretty much the same role having differences of 10k. Recent inexperienced hires either getting a sweet wage because of pre-employment friendships or getting below market rate as unknowns who need to prove they deserve the opportunity. It was my first experience at truly seeing such wage equality. I mean, I used to think (incorrectly), “ok, those in shops are doing a less skilled job, of course Head Office deserve the big bucks” but on that day, I saw that if they can pay you fuck all, they will do. In…
Our whole system is anti-human.
From schools to credit scores, to felonies it's all predicated on the assumption that the individual will not change and will need to “qualify” certain conditions to be “considered” for that loan/job position/college. Had bad grades in highschool due to ADHD or depression? A period of your life where you were still a child? Too bad only community college and military or trades, on your record forever. Bad spending habits? Meh you'll never change we'll reward you to get into debt with more debt, make you an indebted slave. Committed a crime when you were a young stupid teenager? Sorry caveman go work outside, I will not trust you inside my stor, criminal. It's all bullshit! It makes my blood boil, it goes against the human Nature and spirit. In the end it's one giant hellish entity being fueled by countless human lives. If God is real and there is…
